There are many different factors that CERN has to weigh in during the measurements of time and space, and their one fatal flaw may be that because of the nature of the experiment, it considers their detectors to be based on the ground instead of in space. Because of that issue, CERN has not taken into account the relative movement of the GPS clocks on their two satellites. Both satellites are moving, one toward the other, and the other one away from the first.

So, essentially, the physicists forgot about relativity for a couple seconds there.

DERP.

It all comes down to the simple idea that OPERA is not accounting for movement in their GPS clocks that are based on satellites in orbit.

I used that excuse on the last three dates that I went on and it went nowhere.

Of course, I was a year and a half late.

Cern fixed the test and ran it again. Same result.

Was JUST going to post that. And apparently, this time they did not momentarily forget about relativity. WHAT GIVES?

Also Day Glo, are you the same Day Glo I know from HitRECord? Because I loved your story. :D (I mean you must be, 'cause like, two Day Glos, that would be weird.)

according to my math, the variation in time from what was expected is around 0.0025%.
C is the theoretical speed of light in a vacuum. the CERN neutrinos are not traveling in a
vacuum. while the Special Theory has proved useful in describing and predicting certain
dynamics, it does not change the fact that the Theory is a theory and therefore open to
modification such as the inclusion of correction factors which themselves will doubtless
be harder to define than the intricacies of the Theory itself. there is also the possibility
that the Special Theory is fundamentally flawed. the most obvious conclusion, however,
is that i don't know what i'm talking about. a corollary might be that it would be good to
finish those time travel scripts while you can.

Well then hello, Day Glo! ^_^

Hmm, re: CERN and neutrinos, you know, I was really partial to Brian Cox's theory that the particles took a short cut through other dimensions. I like that one a lot.

Well. I like Brian Cox a lot. In some very special ways. :)
