oh yeah?
and why would that be?
would it have something to do with having your clothes fly off in a movie theater?
well, would it?

That is a distinct possibility. :)

Hey, folks,we're getting a little off-topic here, don't you think?

Unless you're implying that if you did kill Hitler, then your clothes would fly off.

actually, i think us/we guys should apologize to Jules for seeming like a slavering,
salacious, hormone-infested mob of Neanderthals. it'll need to be somebody
other than me, as i am often mistaken for a Neanderthal ... either that or a
mumbling heap of rubbish.

and yes, i would mosdef snuff der Fuehrer. it would require a wholesale
reorganization of the space/time continuum just to put me in place to make
it possible, so what's a little thing like altering one expiration date?

Nah it's cool brah, cool.

I might kill Hitler, too. Of course, in my own personal theory, that would just create an alternate reality where Hitler died, and the one where Hitler lived to carry out all his atrocities would still continue to exist with part of my fractured consciousness, but would I know about it? Would any of the people he ended up not killing know about it? How much would it matter in the reality where he lived and carried out his atrocities? Not at all.

Head asplode.

There's an episode of Misfits where they kill Hitler. It's basically non-canon because although it completely alters the personal history of one of the characters it's never mentioned again and she generally behaves as if she didn't grow up in an alternate reality where the Nazis won WWII (which she did, at this point). It breaks its own rules regarding the way time-travel works on the show and was one of the episodes that made me realise how the show's creators have little regard for their audience.

intuitively [which is about the only way you can approach this stuff], i'll stick with Ray Bradbury's
proposition in which one change in the past changes everything in the future ... no alternates needed.
just as two objects cannot occupy the same place at the same time ... it's either/or not both/and.
both/and is a convenient fictional trope which i enjoy, though. i wish i knew what i was talking about.

Had a thought about this as I left Looper yesterday. If Hitler had been killed, let's say in 1938, and whether or not time travel was involved, I think there would be a huge probability that none of us here on the forum would ever have been born.

Would you still have killed Hitler?

^ If that were the case (but I still believe in the multiverse,) then I'd like to think that I would do like Young Joe, and sacrifice myself for the greater good.

Which, of course, never having been born, I would not be able to do, so...

Went to Looper tonight with a bunch of friends, and in the discussion afterward, someone brought up the trope of everyone wanting to kill Hitler. My friend Michelle said, "That's probably why he was so evil! He spent his childhood fending off assassins from the future!"

Mind. Blown.

Well, on a matter of killing Hitler, or just letting him die, a very black humour story from where come from pops in my mind...

A man goes to see a psychic, and she tells him, even though he is a decent and honest person, he will be responsible for the deaths of millions of people. The man was desperate, so to soothe his nerves, he took a walk by the river. As he was walking he saw a boy drowning, so he thought: "If I am really going to be the reason for millions of deaths, let me save just this one life". He jums into the river, saves the boy. The boys mother comes running and hugging the boy, then scolding him and so on. The man starts feeling a bit better about himself. The woman then turns to him and says to her boy: "Adolf, honey, say thanks to the nice man"

The point is, what will happen will happen, and some events are just pinned in the history of human kind. Trust me, I am no fan evil, but some of the greatest changes to the world and society and mentality of men came after great evil came to pass.

So would I kill Hitler? Probably not. (My late gramps, bless her soul, would kill me if she ever read this.)

But this seems like an issue philosophers might answer better than a mere mortal commoner such as myself.
