Obviously, up for discussion here...

Old Joe becomes a runner and now young Joe is in trouble.

Couldn't he take some of his silver bars, turn them in and pretend that he just finished his kill?

Only he would know that it was his older self running around.

That's what my older self told me to do.

Well, damn.

Actually, that would make a pretty cool movie on its own, I think. Then they could be bros and help each other out. Then someone (Kid Blue probably) finds out that Old Joe is still chilling somewhere and the chase is on.

FANFICTION. :P

Oooh neat. I really love it when creators are cool with derivative works. :D

Remember Old Joe knocked his younger self out. Surely it would still have been a bit sketchy had he dropped his silver a couple of hours late?

Awesome idea though!

On the other hand though, even if Young Joe decided to help a brother out and fake closing his loop, the two of them still would have ended up talking at some point. Then Old Joe would have been like, "Hey man, so can you watch my back for a bit while I go and shoot a bunch of kids who may or may not threaten my future happiness?"

And Young Joe would be like, "No, that doesn't suit me, also I don't want to grow up to be an asshole" and we'd be back at square one.

I took some liberties with the dialogue. ^_^

What if Abe brought back the tagging technology with him? That way he would always know when a hit was carried out. If there was an execution scheduled which didn't happen, he'd know someone let their loop run. (But I think I'm right in saying that the tags aren't trackable? They're just alerts for when someone dies?)

I watched it again with my friend last night and she actually asked the same question; if Abe could track the dead bodies too. :)

Well, it's just a drop-pin on a map as to the location of the death, right? Otherwise Abe would know exactly where Old Seth and Old Joe ran off to. But if it is just a death location then they'd know that the executions haven't been carried out (by a lack of notification).

This also suggests to me that the best place to commit murder in the future is in a hospital.

Yes, I think it's been established that the tracking/tagging system mentioned only sends out an alert once the person dies as to location.

Given that the future sends information to Abe, with the wheres and whens of the hits, they probably also notify him when a loop is closing. "Okay, today we got one in the cornfield at 11:30, one by the old warehouse at 12:15, and Seth will be closing his loop at 1:20." That way Abe is prepared to give them the pat on the back, and knows he needs to hire a replacement Looper. Makes sense, ne?

The thing with Seth and the other Loopers is that they turned in all of their silver for cash.
Only Joe was keeping some.
Abe knew he was not turning in the full amount.
Abe would know right away that Seth didn't return with any silver, so he knew Seth failed.

I don't remember exactly, but if Old Seth didn't have all of the gold,
then the easiest thing to do is search for gold in Seth's apartment.
The film doesn't show that anyone knew when their loop was going to close.
Of course, most people, even hit men, don't keep secrets too well when tortured.

Didn't Old Joe want some of this?
