That gives me sad feels. But thanks for clearing that up.
Admittedly, when I first read it, there was definitely a part of me that was ten years old and thinking, "But he could still be okay and Old Joe will still be gone? Like a magical Disney death?"
ETA: But I like the Schrodinger's Cat / uncertainty principle element of it, too. If it's a foregone conclusion that a thing is or isn't, then does it affect the future whether or not it's already happened in the present? And is anything a foregone conclusion, ever? If not, then the future isn't even a thing, it's just an infinite series of possibilities which would look like a haze in the mind of someone actually from the future.
Back when the script first leaked (sorry!
) I had an anonymous conversation with a few other anonymous people on an anonymous web site about the nature of past, present, future, and loops (and loops within loops) in the universe of the script. It was just a bunch of Timeheads fanpoodling and flailing. Once in a while I debate actually posting the conversation somewhere now.
