I was thinking about this today at lunch and thought I'd share... granted the movie has its time paradoxes, but I think this is the best way to work in a much craved sequel... or is it?

The moment young Joe commits suicide to kill old Joe, his action in the past erases old Joe from the future, but also stops old Joe from creating the Rainmaker (Cid) by killing Sarah in the past.

This effectively creates a new loop, in where Cid never becomes the Rainmaker, so Joe's and the other Loopers' loops, are not closed that same week.

That leaves opportunity for a new story line, because every thing that was seen after all the loops were being closed, never happens.

discuss?

Cheers,

Brian

what if the sequel is much like the sequel of the descent where it doesn't follow the logic of the original and it's just made up rubbish written by some kid who saw the movie, who was a big fan of the original and the director/writer, and decided to write a sequel based on his interpretation of the original one.

i think cid still becomes the rainmaker.
he was already aware of loopers before jgl/bw came to the picture.
and it would be perfect for a new story where the rainmaker takes over an organization from the withinside. (had to add that for the lulz)
his struggle to reach the top. or no struggle since he's powerful. so choices he had to make.
we are aware of the events of why cid becomes who he becomes, what we are not aware of is the time it all happens. it could still happen.

one thing you can be sure of is if there were a sequel, written and directed by rian, it would be awesome.

Well, obviously that will be the general plot of The Rainmaker Chronicles TV series.

I honestly think the best way to sequel would be to not touch the property for a number of years. I'd make a spin off called TK which would focus on the next "evolution" of TK while simultaneously dealing with the invention of a time-machine. It should not involve any of the original characters.

I really don't want a sequel.

agreed. I don't want a sequel either.

I would love an expanded universe via books. Surely whatever unnamed city in Kansas wasn't the only place with Loopers. Lots of people in the future need killing...

They could do a sequel where the gangsters send a hitman back in time to kill Cid when he's in his early teens because he becomes the undoing of the loopers in the future. It should be called Terminator 2.

What if Kid Blue survived? What if... Kid Blue It?

Spin-off franchise: Kid Blue It Again; Guess Who Blue It Another Time; You Really Blue It This Time, Kid!.

I really would never want a sequel film. They never recapture the magic of the original.

However, I could see a fan-fiction short story writing contest.

Choose prequel, continuation, or Old Joe prior to being sent back.
Follow young Cid or a new different Rainmaker (the fill the vacuum type of storyline) or all new characters in the Looper world.

I'm sure there's some Looper memorabilia that could be put up as prizes, right?
Or maybe a ticket to the next RJ premier?

Anybody up for it?
Any plot suggestions?
