One week from now - almost to the minute - I will be leaving the cinema after seeing it. I'm still trying desperately to reign in my expectations.

I think for me the line is between how much a a reboot/remake this is versus how good the movie actually is.

And just to be ethnic for one second, I think the choice to make the new protagonists be white girl and black guy already makes it 200% more progressive than any other blockbuster coming out this year and the years forthcoming.

Got scheduled at work for the time I had tickets for (I work at the theater I'm seeing it at), so I had to pay a guy 20 bucks to take my shift. Worth it since I didn't pay for my ticket anyway.

I think what I'm hoping for mostly is for it to feel like the original trilogy. After that, as long as it isn't super-complicated or ideologically compromised (lookin' at you, Star Trek Into Darkness), I'll probably be satisfied (and there are no 9/11 truthers involved in this film, to my knowledge).

Definitely worth it.

I've got my ticket printed and ready. Friday evening, first row of the middle section, dead center. Recently rewetted the original trilogy with my gal to emotionally prepare. Like everyone I'm trying to keep my expectations in check, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be fucking greeeaaaat.

I'm planning on going next week when the crowds have died down a bit, but if I wake up early on Saturday I'll probably just try to sneak into a 10:00 AM showing.

Mad Max was another example of that. Making the titular, main character the damsel in distress for most of the movie was a bold move. Anytime "men's rights" activists are boycotting a film, it probably means you did something right. :)

Welcome! I say keep away from certain parts of the internet! People are wrongfully assuming that everyone has already seen it, so tread lightly!
