Ok, here's a big question. Whether or like ep.7 or not there's no denying that it has a boat load of references to the OGT (original trilogy, I don't know why I decided to use that acronym) Anyway, my question is....how remakey is it gonna go? Is it going to be a completely original direction or is there going to be some sort of Empire-esque twist? Or will the only consistency with the orginal trilogy be "hey this is gonna get a lot darker before it gets better" in which case that's not really remakey at all.

I think the big flaw of TFA was how mercilessly it mirrored ANH, but I understand why it was done (sort of). I think we'd be knuckleheads to assume Rian doesn't know this too, and I expect him to steer around this in wholly unexpected ways, as opposed to some ham-fisted "Well, we're definitely not going to Cloud City" line.

Exactly this, if you ask me.

10 will get you 10 the script is already written and getting ideas now would be a horrible idea, but not as bad as going to Cloud City again.

Day late and a dollar short.
Story of my life.
Plus getting shorted on the cleverness gene.

I think they already kind of brought back the Sarlaac (along with nearly every other idea): The tentacle thing that nearly ate Finn. It was kind of like a Sarlaac tasmanian devil. Anyway, it was a thing with tentacles that eats people. - Your ever loyal and diligent Episode 7 disparager.

From what I've heard on this site and read in the news, it seems like Johnson will be departing quite a ways from the normative order, and taking some original story-telling risks. It will be interesting to see HOW far he takes it.

I'm hoping Episode 8 doesn't get overly dark/creepy/violent/scary. Seems like Hollywood and the entertainment industry in general is getting way dark, and trying to be cool at all costs. I guess it's hard to put down something that is dark/violent/scary in the same way that it is hard to put down a bully. It's easy to make fun of and criticize lighthearted or cheerful film. I think that overuse of dark/violent/creepy/scary is a crutch that disguises poor film-making in most cases.

I'm also hoping that the rumored homosexual romance, if present, is tied into the story in a way that makes sense, and helps the storyline in some way, rather than just being a big disjointed plot point calling attention to the fact that Star Wars/Disney is a progressive-thinking, equal-opportunity non-descriminator.

I have my doubts in both cases, but am open to the potential for a pleasant surprise.
However, if Disney/Abrams blows it a second time, I may become a Lucas purist, and totally disregard all future Star Wars movies.

Well, I haven't seen any of his films. Perhaps he will have earned to be "His Highnessness", but until then... Johnson

Courtesy is something you give someone until they choose to throw it away.
That's how I was raised and the concept has always commended itself.

I'm always borderline-disrespectful towards people whose movies I haven't seen even though they've been available through a multitude of sources for years. Spielberg knows why.
