I was lucky enough to be able to see the film in 70mm IMAX at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia yesterday. It's really a treat to see a movie in this format, and I love not simply because of the large dome screen, but just the projection of the movie on film itself. To me nothing beats that crisp, slightly imperfect, classic filmic look to it. A lot of shots and sequences in this felt even more epic than they did in the digital 3D version, and made me think of David Lean's many epics (wish I'd be able to see those in theatres, as well.)
I hope Rian gets the chance to watch the movie in this format. I don't know if that's a bit narcissistic for filmmakers to go to the theatre to see their own movies
but it was a really enjoyable and special experience. Hope y'all can get out to see it this way too.
