I know, we got a little OT, but yeah, there I'm also super over with "bang bang bang!" of both sorts. I mean I've always felt like there has to be a reason for it in either case, and not just titillation. (titillation  )

Which is also not to say that I think it's okay to porn it up or have salacious gratuitous bonking in all these movies.

Also, to your other point, I think that's why I love what Rian did in Looper so much with the love scene.

I'm not being all like "we need more naked parts all over the place", just that the double standard is really weird to me. Violence is pretty gross (though conflict being a part of drama it does sometimes need to be there, just not all Eli-Roth-style where someone is lovingly grinding someone's face into, like, a face grinder for twenty minutes), sex (or even just the wrong body parts being visible) is icky to the weird puritan mindset that still hovers over America generally, so we err on the side of SUPER COOL GUN BATTLES.

I had a roommate that liked to watch movies while he worked at home. I would joke (because he would watch them REALLY LOUD and it was a small place) that it sounded like these movies consisted nearly entirely of screeching tires, broken glass, and gunshots. I'm sure there was a lot more going on, but all those being kind of high-frequency sounds it's all I would hear through our doors. But those three sounds happened REALLY OFTEN, and slowly I realized through my irritation that I didn't have a ton of interest in movies that centered around those things.

Not sure what my point is here. Anyway.

I remember distinctly that in season 1 of Hannibal there was a scene with flayed corpses. The standards & practices team told them that they couldn't be shown... because their butts were were visible. So they covered the cracks with more blood. Good to go.

"In a buttshell" lol, yup. I remember that. Hannibal really pushed the boundaries for violence.

But it was weirdly respectful? No, not respectful, but maybe tongue in cheek enough so that it wasn't unwatchable. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but I was able to watch it, where I'm not able to watch Game of Thrones or Walking Dead. Hannibal had vividly detailed and almost lovingly filmed scenes of outright torture - and I did have to watch through my fingers sometimes. But they were always sort of winking at you, like you were in on the joke.

And yeah, there was no rape and women were treated - well - not badly, I should say.

Oh, wait, I tell a lie: Backing up, there was one off-screen bit that I would call a rape, and it made me squeamish even though they only described it.

Also yeah: looks like OP did it and ran.

Seen at the Women's March here in Chicago over the weekend. There were actually a lot of TLJ-themed signs, but I thought this was particularly neat.
