Video of the presentation Nathan made at the Apple Store SOHO, about scoring Brick.

It's about 40 minutes, with a surprise guest at the end.

(For lack of sleep, this post is presented without witty comment of any sort.)

EDIT: Excepting just-noticed potentially amusing misreading of first sentence.

The Brick sound is one that lingers, quite memorable, to say the least.

While Babel and Pan's Labyrinth both employed awesome music, Brick IMO surpasses the quality, in that it is both 'sinister' and haunting (if that makes sense).

There are also sceneswhere Rian make use of natural sound, like cars racing on the highway, as Joe's character confronts Laura in the final scene. It really highlights the movie, further intensifies the scene!

Amazingly enough, I just watched this video for the first time. Almost as amazingly is that until Rian said it, I still thought "Annasthesia" was pronounced more like "anesthesia" than "Anastasia." Hence Nathan's user rank.

Boy, is my face red.

Actually, Sarah, it IS pronounced more like anaesthesia: "ah-nuh - s - thee - sia" (not like the pop singer).

It comes from the combination of the female name with the term for the medical numbing agent.

Suits me right to choose an album title with a made-up spelling that renders it often un-pronouncable.

*phew* Oh good. I like that title better.
I think it comes off perfectly clearly when you see it spelled, Rian just threw me off when he said it in the video. That Rian, always causing trouble...

Thank you! fantastic vid - really great insight into the development of an indie soundtrack. Not to mention the fact it was done over iChat! I saw Nathan's band while I was studying in the US... great stuff I hope they go on to even bigger things.

Without wishing to rub it in... I actually chatted to some members of the band when they visited my college... I have to say though, I didn't know Nathan had anything to do with Brick at the time and can't even remember if he was among the guys I spoke to  I do remember at least one of the guys was British (from Bournemouth maybe?) cos we noted it was a shock to hear another British accent in central PA.

The gig was great tho! :)

A friend and I are setting up a indie film blog at fingerlickinindie.com and I just posted about this video because it really inspired myself and a number of my friends... while obviously the contents of the blog won't contain anything new for those who have watched the video and belong to this forum. I wanted to spread the word because, frankly, it's an astounding achievement (the score, not the video, tho the video aint half bad too) :D

I'll shut up... here's the link: http://fingerlickinindie.com/2008/02/06/scoring-brick/
