I noticed in the shooting script that the final scene was set on an outdoor basketball court (or "basketball field," as it is inexplicably described). In the film, of course, they are on a football field. I thought the imagery in the script of the tinkling metal basketball nets was pretty cool. Why the switch? Was it because the characters were getting everything "out into the open"?

Loved the movie. More than simply great filmmaking, it's also an important example of perseverance and belief in your own abilities.

It just occurred to me that I may have posted the above in the wrong thread. My apologies (I'm a dope).

By the time the movie was shot, the outdoor basketball courts had classrooms built on them. It's also why the Del Rio and Sarmentoso location replaced "Pico and Alexander" (which is a nonexistent intersection anyway)--buildup made this a very busy road, whereas DR & S is a pretty sleepy suburban street for the most part. It's also about four miles from the high school, which is probably why Brendan was out of breath when he got to the phone booth the second time. :)

Mystery solved. Thanks! Eliminating outdoor basketball courts is unamerican, by the way.

That's it. I was actually really bummed that we couldn't use the original location.
