Thanks to everyone who noted that the "A" symbol on the early cover design made the title look like "A Brick." I never would have caught that, but I'm glad you did. I let Focus know about it, and they're going to re-design it to be less confusing.

Armageddon averted. (High five!)

hey i was wondering if you guys are actually paying someone to design the cover?
If yes you should make a competition for us to send you designs as i'm sure you would get really cool ones and it would be free.

Shhhhhhhhh!!! If the design company hears that kind of talk, they'll kill you in your sleep!

The unfortunate thing about DVD covers is that it has very little to do with good design. If companies were worried about the DVD actually looking nice, they'd all look like Criterion discs. Instead, they want them bright and colorful with the actors faces nice and big so they stick out on the shelf at Blockbuster. Depressing, but true.

that's ok we can tell them someone already killed me

You know that's the thing about fans or people who actually care about a movie, they canmakethe dvd not only nice but bright and colorful and everything to be seen at the blockbuster shelves.

But best way to do it is by taking every other dvd off the shelves. You can tell them that.

Just for fun though i would be interested in seeing everyone's idea and development for a cover so if anyone has time to kill and enjoys this kind of thing... anyone?... no... oh, ok.

Oh, you know I'm all for it. If anyone wants to post some DVD cover designs up here I'd be thrilled - and I'll probably end up printing them out and putting them in my Brick DVD sleeve.

I haven't seen the movie yet (PSST LOUISVILLE WANTS BRICK), but I knew I wanted to do something with the broken-mirror-geisha-girl image from the trailer. I printed it out, traced it on my lightbox, then textured it with some construction paper:

I'll do a higher-res (printable) version later if anybody's interested.

That's sexy. Now can I plainly say that I am dissapointed that there is no DVD cover contest?

That's beautiful - I love that one! (And I promise I'm keeping my ear to the rail for news of Louisville.) That image of Kara in front of the broken mirror was one of the very first images (along with the tunnel) I had in my head for the film.

Kara was that mirror shot. Brendan was the jacket. Laura, the song at the piano. Emily was the bracelets in the water. Dode was his little lair behind the pie house. The Brain was his spot deep in the stacks in the library. Tugger was his scar (which didn't end up really working as I'd intended.) The Pin was his club foot.
