My friend Megan is an amazing composer working in film. Here's her latest piece for string quartet.

Uhhhh, holy shit?

Edit: Liked and subd to soundcloud let me know if there's anything better I can do to support her that isn't monetary and I'll do it. A really beautiful piece.

Facebook and Bandcamp here. Not sure there's anything else right now!

And my favourite piece of hers, composed for a clarinet quintet.

The last two included are going to make the rest of the tracks required listening. See you in an hour or two.

Here's my jam lately: Ratboys - "Not Again"

New Mountain Goats album "Goths" on May 19th!

Single out now - "Andrew Eldritch is Moving Back to Leeds"

http://www.stereogum.com/1926077/the-mountain-goats-andrew-eldritch-is-moving-back-to-leeds/music/

Real quirky instrumentation with that signature sound and literary lyrics. I'm feeling this.

I really like this! I skipped Beat the Champ - I just wasn't feeling a full album of songs about wrestlers. I'm sure I'll give it more of a go sometime - but this is more of "pick it up asap".

(Where did this forum fall on Transcendental Youth and All Eternals Deck? I've got a sense that neither are especially popular with TMG fans but I love both.)

I liked all three. Beat the Champ is conceptually specific, sure, but the tunes are generally more inspiring that a lot of his work. It's more about the struggles of local-access wrestlers as performers wanting to be liked (and survive), which feels pretty transferrable to a lot of artistic endeavors. I don't spin it as much as, but I don't dislike it, even though I have no affinity for wrestling.

All Eternals Deck has some great stuff on it. I wrote a short inspired by Damn These Vampires that never took off (and wasn't near as good as the song), but the whole album was pretty solid - if maybe less memorable.

Transcendental Youth is aces. It came out the same week as Looper, so the forum was jamming to that together to & from our San Clemente Brick adventure, which is a nice memory. It's among my most played Mountain Goats. I probably play Lakeside View Apartments Suite on the piano at least once every week.

Man, he's doing three shows here at the Fillmore in June--one Thursday and two Friday (a 5:00 and 8:00, which seems bananas). When I chatted with John a few years back when I went to the Friday-Saturday shows at Bottom of the Hill, he asked if I was coming "tomorrow", since he'd added a Sunday show that I hadn't heard about. He looked a little disappointed that I wasn't. So I feel like I gotta do him right.

We also talked about Man-Thing for a while. John's intense.
