My ten favourite movie scores for the year. Order is fairly arbitrary as these were all scores that I loved.

10. Moana by Mark Mancina
4. Nocturnal Animals by Abel Korzeniowski
3. Pete's Dragon by Daniel Hart
2. The Girl With All the Gifts by Cristobal Tapia de Veer
1. Lion by Dustin O'Halloran & Hauschka

Still need to see these, but the music in Swiss Army man was the only stuff that really blew me away this year. Kubo and Arrival are the two (from movies I've seen) that come close. The Kubo music especially. I left the blu ray menu on for so long because it features that wicked fast shamisen.

I really did a poor job of watching previously released films this year, especially compared to my intake of new movies & TV, but I did finally catch some really important & enjoyable stuff. Tops include (in decreasing order within sublists)...

Some fun stuff:
The American President
Paprika
The French Connection
Whip It!
Kicking and Screaming
The Candyman

Animal House

Hellraiser

A Trio of Early Swanberg:
Hannah Takes the Stairs
Kissing on the Mouth

Alexander the Last

The Before Trilogy:
Before Midnight
Before Sunrise

Before Sunset

And a film that will rest easy in my top ten for a long time:
The Last Picture Show

Also finally did a close rewatch of these little indies, not edited for TV:
The Godfather
The Godfather Part 2

And caught theatrical screenings of these classics:
Blue Velvet

Jurassic Park
The Room

Aiming to get less swept up in watching every new TV show in 2017 and focusing more on my independent video store, revival screenings and festivals. But I'll probably still see 50-60 new releases... That list is going to take a little longer!

That's a really cool list Marc. I wish I'd have kept better track of something like that. Oh wait.. I DID. List to come.

Top 10 Greats That I Saw Late

1. The Player
2. In a Lonely Place
3. Sweet Smell of Success
4. The Decline of Western Civilization Pt III
5. The Browning Version
6. Talk Radio
7. An American Werewolf in London
8. You're Next
9. Repo Man
10. Memories of Murder

I also think it's awesome that I unintentionally opened the year with Duck Soup and closed it out with It's a Wonderful Life. Maybe I should make that a tradition. Two of my all-time favorites.

Still have to knock a small handful of movies off before I do my annual Roc-scars.

As I didn't go to the cinema as much as I'd have liked this year, and I didn't pick the best selection of films to see, I don't see much point in doing a top ten list. Instead here's all the films I saw this year in order of how much I enjoyed them:

-Great-
01. The Nice Guys (Shane Black)
02. Hell or High Water (David Mackenzie)
03. Zootropolis (Byron Howard, Rich Moore & Jared Bush)

-Really Good-
04. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Gareth Edwards)
05. War Dogs (Todd Phillips)*

-Good-
06. Captain America: Civil War (Joe & Anthony Russo)
07. Warcraft: The Beginning (Duncan Jones)
08. Keanu (Peter Atencio)*
09. Cafe Society (Woody Allen)

-Average-
10. Deadpool (Tim Miller)
11. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (David Yates)
12. X-Men: Apocalypse (Bryan Singer)

-Bad-
13. The Secret Life of Pets (Chris Renaud & Yarrow Cheney)*

I plan to catch Moana and La La Land at the start of the 2016, the latter hasn't been released here yet.
*Those with asterisks I saw on a plane journeys and my opinion may have been effected by sleep-deprivation, alcohol or a general amusement of how the swearing was clumsily censored.

Damn! I've not seen any of your top 9 and your 10th favorite is my 1st, so I've got a lot of catching up to do.

For the record, The Lobster would almost certainly have made my top 10, but it was a 2015 release in the UK.

La La Land has brought minimal change to my list, but I'm going to wait to post the updated version until I see Silence and Jackie (and maybe a couple others)
