Figured those of us who are interested shouldn't bog the other threads down with our incessant list-making. This is the place for year-end lists (albums, books, movies, events that took place in your hometown, newly discovered species', etc).

Have at it!

I've been horribly remiss with music this year, and it's a bit early for my movies list. I'll be using this thread for recommendations though!

Wow we all have very different music tastes and now I must dive deep into these choices to confront my own mortality as a man who can only listen to the lightest of hip hop, but wants more from my music as principal.

Must I verify my find in authentic peer reviewed journals first?
My neighbors might qualify, but they already have a significant
paper being vetted by the editorial staff of NATURE about me.

Unfortunately yes, proof is a necessity.

I was too broke for movies or new music this year. I think all the new albums I heard were by my friends...and/or had me on them (I still haven't listened to Blackstar all the way through...I know, I know). And my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I think the last movie I saw in a theater was The Force Awakens ^^;

I'll eagerly look to your lists for what to catch up on!

Ready for an initial movie list. Subject to change. UK release in 2016.

1. Arrival
2. 10 Cloverfield Lane
3. The Hateful Eight
4. Room
5. The Invitation
6. Son of Saul
7. The Girl With All the Gifts
8. The Edge of Seventeen
9. Hunt for the Wilderpeople
10. The Nice Guys

(brief, unnecessary demographics: 5 feature a female lead (1,2,4,7,8), 2 female directors (5,8), 2 female writers (4,8), 1 foreign language (6), 2 directed by people of colour (5,9), 7 American productions (1,2,3,4,5,8,10), 0 studio productions*.)

*for this purpose: produced by a major American studio. 1, 2, 10 distributed but not produced by majors.

very honourable mentions: Creed, How To Be Single, Pete's Dragon, Kubo and the Two Strings, Rogue One, Spotlight, Julieta, Love & Friendship, Moana, Lion, The Jungle Book, Captain America: Civil War, White Girl.

I wrote out a top 10 TV for the year but then decided there were too many shows I have started but not yet finished. I need to finish Westworld, Black Mirror, Preacher, Mr. Robot, and others before I can settle a list.

Why make things difficult for yourself?
Best guess works fine.

My 2016 top movies list, more than anything, serves as a proof that I haven't seen a lot this year (only 22), and most of it was only so-so. A lot of 2016 is still on my watch list, especially the smaller movies.

10. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Director's Cut
While just as dumb as the theatrical version, this even longer cut did have the flow necessary to make it watchable.
9. Star Trek Beyond
Action scenes were silly. Lost some of it's engaging vibe without J.J. Abrams, still fun though.
8. Hail, Caesar!
No focus on anything in terms of story or characters, but a fun dream about a supposedly more golden age of Hollywood.
7. Doctor Strange
The story has been told a thousand times, and it got stale the third time, but the visuals are refreshing and dazzlingly spectacular.
6. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
A stumbling start to the new Harry Potter franchise, but it does make me want more.
5. X-Men: Apocalypse
Bryan Singer isn't half as good at making a Michael Bay movie as he thinks he is, but in the scenes where he doesn't try to, his fourth X-Men film is just as good as the others.
4. Kubo and the Two Strings
Not as fresh as Laika's previous films, but still easily a more gorgeous fairytale than any CG animated film from the last several years.
3. The BFG
For smaller children than what I was expecting, which took me a little time to get used to, but then it was great.
2. Deadpool
For all its loud crudeness and gore, it's the human story at the center that made this better then most other superhero movies in recent memory. Though, admittedly, that is comparing it to the human stories at the center of superhero movies in recent memory.
1. Rogue One
Whatever small issues I had in the first viewing evaporated in the second viewing. Heck, I love it.
