For the record, I think websites like Common Sense Media (http://www.commonsensemedia.org) and Kids In Mind (www.kids-in-mind.com) are great. They list everything that could be remotely thought objectionable about a film and let parents decide from there whether they want their kids to see it. It's a good resource for parents rather than reading reviews, where one person's "not that gory" could be another's "sickeningly graphic."

That being said, these "reviews" are often quite hilarious. Check out what this site has to say about Bloom:

http://kids-in-mind.com/b/brothersbloom.htm

This is my favorite passage:
A man yells out, "I'm going to kill him!" A man tells another man he hates him. A man yells at a woman to "go away!" A man calls himself useless. People are shown grieving for a dead man. A woman discusses the death of her mother. A woman discusses how as a child she was allergic to everything including hypodermic needles.

Pretty fascinating seeing it all laid out like that without any context.

Isn't this incorrect? She's just allergic to the needles, right?

How 'bout some warnings like:

May enrich your child's life.
May expand your child's mind.
May cause your child to question his/her parents' taste in films.

People watching that many films and being that clinical in their assessment can't be expected to be accurate. Oddly enough, the Common Sense Media review said the language was "colorful, including insults like 'dunce' and 'sucker,' and a few uses of the s-word." What about the infamous "two fucks, and they went by pretty quickly"?

I took my 11 year old son to see The Brothers Bloom this weekend. We both loved it and had a great time discussing it afterward. I'm not sure this movie is for all 11 year olds, but there was nothing in this movie that I would consider objectionable.

OK. Maybe a little blood. and gun. and some swearing. and drinking. But come on... that's cool right? Oh, and there is a heist. But be cool. Your kid will dig it.

And you'll know to be a little sceptical if your son approaches you with a "proposition" one of these days, right?

Welcome to the forum, Tofuguns!
