Just did the mp3 commentary in the movie theater and per Rian's instructions, here is a pic of my ipod and the closing credits. I may be the only person to actually do this, and the elderly couple in the row behind me may have thought I was a dvd bootlegger with my less-than-subtle over-the-ear headphones, but it was well worth it and I would recommend the commentary to everyone.
Rian, how about a film festival of dvd commentaries (best, and worst) next year at the New Beverly?
Loved loved loved the Brothers Bloom, and am astounded by your ability to address profound ideas and simultaneously create a gorgeous, entertaining film. I never thought it would be possible for a movie to include both Chanel sunglasses and an analysis of how self-representation and narrative contribute to identity. Well done!
This may be an obvious question, but how do you choose subjects to write about? Did you decide first to write a con man movie, then the thematic arc fell into place, or did you specifically set out to focus on storytelling and the subjectivity of experience, and the con man framework came later? And what’s your writing process? Does writing come easily to you or is it a struggle to sit down and write?
Btw, the picture may be too dark but my ipod is orange - what might that signify?
