EDIT: I split this from the other DVD discussion, since we seemed to be having two separate conversations.

I'm organizing a group viewing on Tuesday, for all my friends who ignored my constant reminders to go see it in the theater. I kind of want to have some sort of themed snack or drink, but I can't think of any (short of buying a big tub of animal crackers and pulling out all the camels).

Angel food cake?

Corned beef?

A plate of con-fections?

I'm blanking on why angel food cake would work, but good call on corned beef. However...

This is a winner! I obviously wasn't thinking very hard, or this would have been a obvious. My family has a secret waffle recipe that my brother is notorious for perfecting. That'll be perfect!

Maybe some red apples.

Another easy idea: various single serving bags of candies, chips etc.

Served out of a pillowcase.

Sarah, I seem to remember you being a teetotaler, but someone recently tweeted me asking for the cocktails we used at the soundtrack party. Here's the list in case any of you would like to recreate the character-themed drinks. (Don't drink the Bang-Bang while it is still on fire. Okay.)
Also, somebody else made the welcome punch so I don't have the recipe but it should be easy to track down how to make a light sangria.

(Pictures scattered through here).
Enjoy!

Cocktail Menu

The Curator's Welcome Punch
Champagne peach Sangria
Light and crisp; perfect for an evening in Prague

Bloom Martini
Hendricks Gin and a splash of dry vermouth
Shaken over ice and garnished with a slice of cucumber

Penelope's First Blush
Flushed cheeks and sea breeze, this fresh take on a Piña Colada
blends Rum, Coconut and Cranberry - garnished with Asian Pear

Stephen's Marmalade Sour
Brazilian sugar cane Cachaça shaken with cut marmalade, cream and egg white
Sweet with a smoky kick and a cock-eyed grin

Bang-Bang
Campari, Lemon and Brandy flambé
When you're done with something, blow it up.

Diamond Dog
A darker version of a White Russian
Spiced Rum shaken with Kahlua under a one-eyed float of heavy cream

The Perfect Con
First developed in New Orleans, this take on the classic Ramos Gin Fizz mixes lemon, lime, and cream to a froth-tipped perfection

Instructions:

Bloom Martini
3 oz. Hendricks Gin
Splash of dry vermouth
Cucumber slice garnish

Penelope's First Blush
(Jim Ehrman's First Blush)
4 T crushed ice
4 T white rum
4 T sweet coconut cream
4 T heavy cream
.5 C cranberry juice
1 T pear nectar
Blend and serve. Garnish with Asian pear slices.

Stephen's Marmalade Sour
(Based on Jamie Boudreau's Marmalade Sour)
3 oz. Cachaca
1 oz. Lemon Juice
1 oz. Simple Syrup (equal parts sugar and water, mixed until dissolved)
2 dashes Fee's Orange Bitters
1 egg white
2 T. Orange Marmalade

Bang-Bang
This is basically a Combustible Edison.
2 oz. Brandy (heated in a pan, but not boiling)
1 oz. Campari
1 oz. Lemon Juice
Pour Brandy into chilled cocktail glass and ignite while shaking the campari & lemon mixture seperately. Then pour into flaming Brandy. (You may need to experiment with this one. When you pour in the campari, it should extinguish the brandy after a while, but it may not. It should go without saying, but I've heard stories of third-degree burns from someone who tried to drink a flaming cocktail that wasn't extinguished.)

Diamong Dog
(A variation on Milk & Honey's "Dominicana". If you want to do it their way, substitute Caffe Lolita for the Kahlua)
1.5 oz. Kahlua
1.5 oz. Bacardi 8 (or other spiced rum)
Shake and strain into chilled cocktail glass. Float heavy cream on top by pouring gently over the back of a bar spoon.

The Perfect Con
(The famed Ramos Gin Fizz)
1.5 oz. Plymouth Gin
.5 oz. Lemon Juice
.5 oz. Lime Juice
1.5 oz. Simple Syrup (equal parts sugar and water, mixed until dissolved)
2 oz. Light Cream
1 egg white
1 dash orange flower water
1 oz club soda
Combine egg white with gin and juices in a shaker with the metal spring from a standard Hawthorne strainer. Dry shake for at least 1 minute. Then add all otherr ingredients except club soda with ice and continue to shake until freezing cold. Pour into chilled tall thin glass and then top with club soda very slowly.

Nathan: I do imbibe on a rare occasion, but because it's so rare I have exactly zero booze on hand at home. Well, someone left a tiny bottle of Jager in my freezer, but that hardly counts. I looked over this list when you posted it on Tumblr and wished I had the stuff on hand to make them...they all sound awesome!

Good suggestions, guys...can't believe I didn't think of Pixie Stix! And snack foods and little booze bottles in a pillow case...damn. Wish I had more time and money for this.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, everyone. The party went swimmingly. Considering that I invited people only two days before, I figure seven is a good turn-out.
Plus, you can't really fit more than seven people in my living room anyway.

We had waffles (the only time I will get away with calling my friend Ryan 'Fat Man'), chips and salsa (because Mexico may be a horrible place but their snack foods are delicious), Pixie Stix (duh) and some sort of Eastern European cookies (for ambiance). Of the seven, four had not seen it before, and everyone loved it. My bandmate Annie couldn't stop talking about Rachel's ass, and there are Pixie Stix wrappers all over my apartment from her flicking them on the floor and saying "playground bourgeoisie!"

After everyone else I sat down and watched most of the special features, including that awesome Easter Egg! Has everyone found it? Much better than Ninja Ko ;)

In that alternate universe where we're actually ever having a Halloween In January party with all the Brickers present, I am totally making those waffles.

And I'm totally going to make sure they're gone before Duane arrives.
