Rian has finally
decided to make the Bloom script available to the masses - the original shooting script, that is, not the early version that leaked and that I'm sure none of us read because Rian wouldn't want us to *cough*.http://www.rcjohnso.com/bloom
So, what does everyone think? Here are my notes from reading the script:
"Both boys played a part" to "To ease his brother's heart." When did you make that change?
When did the Chink become Bang Bang?
The bit with the little old man who tries to make Bloom smile is awesome. Just sayin'.
A moment of appreciation for describing Pen as "beautiful but in a non-Lamborghini way."
I'm bummed that you had to cut the bit where Bloom says "There's something to be said for playing it cool" and Pen runs after him to invite him in for coffee. Awesome bit of character dev for her.
Another moment of appreciation for Pen saying smugglers "like she's eating chocolate." I think of this comparison now every time I really relish a word.
I swear to God in the ten times I have watched this movie I never heard the line "pinch
the copy girl’s baboosh" correctly. I wondered what he meant by "pinch the copy across the bush."
I'm amazed that "your smile is the sun" is not in the script. Surely you didn't just whip that one out on set?
I love that Stephen says "tiny" to bang Bang in Japanese, which isn't in the script either. It's an adorable exchange between the two.
And for the record, I still like this passage better than what ended up in the film:
"The pure whole hearted sensuality with which they attack each
other and the deluge of almost child-like need let loose in
this one simple act quickly reaches a point where as a viewer
we no longer feel comfortable intruding with our gaze."
A moment of appreciation for "Holy shit. He is going to steal that apple."
Wait...no "real sunsets might be beautiful, but they turn into dark, uncertain nights" either? Did you think up ALL the best lines on the spot?
I cannot say how severely disappointed I am that we'll never see the Monte Carlo casino scene acted out (even though the movie worked fine without it).
I'm way too lazy to ever be truly belligerently insane.
